As I'm local, I have never actually stayed at the hotel, but have visited the restaurant many times. Food is excellent and the service fast and friendly. The menu is very traditional Midwestern, but they do a great job with what they do offer. The prime rib is very good. Good for groups large or small. For some fun, ask the staff about the paranormal research that has been conducted in the hotel.

About what you'd expect for a historical building in a small town. The service was excellent and the scenery was interesting to put it lightly, but everything was outdated. The room was small and the sink was in front of the bed rather than in the bathroom. The mattress on the bed was much too firm for our liking. It's connected to a pub and offered a good sized brunch in the morning. It served its purpose for being cheap and in the middle of nowhere, but I would not choose to stay there again.
If in Strawberry Point Iowa then get yourself some Strawberry pie! We did at the Franklin hotel and it was wonderful. Not sure what else they have to offer but check it out.
Most love the charm of this 100 year old hotel. It is close to many of Iowa's spring creek trout streams for fly fishing.
